Local honey

We use honey in many foods, such as in a cup of tea, a bowl of oatmeal, in yogurt, on toast, and to sweeten a tomato sauce. Honey is also our primary bottling sugar for brewing beer. We buy most of our honey from the Phoenix Earth Food Co-op, which sells at least two options, produced by local farmers who locate their beehives within and around Toledo.

Our first snowfall may occur this weekend

Based upon the Wed evening, Oct 29, 2014 forecast by the National Weather Service, Toledo may receive its first snowflakes and its first measurable snowfall of the season on Sat morning, Nov 1.

Oct 31, 2014 morning update: We may receive up to a half-inch of wet snow on grassy areas by sunrise Nov 1.

Nov 1, 2014 update: Trace of snow recorded at airport. I saw no snow falling on Fri evening, Oct 31 within Toledo. Light snow fell over areas surrounding Toledo.

East side sports arena workshop

At least 100 people attended the sports arena feasibility study meeting at Waite High School Tuesday evening. The east-siders brought plenty of attitude. I think they were more interested in tearing someone a new a-hole than watching the slide show that explained the study's findings. They couldn't wait to speak. I can't blame them for being spunky. They feel like they are being screwed again, and I think they're right. Even though I'd like to see the arena on the downtown side of the river, I'm also in the just-build-it-somewhere camp.

Celebrate the return of the songbirds! Look for local happenings in your area parks or join the celebration along the SW end of Lake Erie. Events are scheduled at Maumee Bay Nature Center, Ottawa NWR. And Magee Marsh W/A from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Bird walks, programs, bird-banding demonstrations.
